Day 13 October 9th 2012 - Port Leucate to Roses (Total 76 miles - Running Total 896 miles) Despite the awful day yesterday I awoke early and rearing to get going on the next leg of the journey which would see me cycling along the French Mediterranean coast and then turning in land to Elne and then the Pyrenees crossing into Spain by lunchtime. I particularly enjoyed my first real sight of the Mediterranean reflecting on the fact I had crossed the whole length of France. The ride along the coast was beautiful and the weather could not have been better, warm and sunny. The route into Spain was on the busy D900 through Le Boulou to the border at Le Perthus. The steep climb to the border was not so much a problem as negotiating this very busy road and I could not wait to get this leg of the journey out of the way. From Le Perthus and the border town of La Jonquera there was a fantastic fast descent before I was able to leave this awful road and continue on much quieter roads to Roses where I arrived in the early evening. All in all this was not a bad day and the hotel and dinner were fantastic. I was now so close to my final destination. |
